Kanipakam, this is another famous Vinayaka Swamy temple situated in Chittoor district, Andra Pradesh. This is very old temple (almost 1000 years old) located around 60 kms from Tirupathi and 10 Kms from Chittoor.
Kanipakam is a small beautiful town where we have our Lord "Vinayaka Swamy". This temple has a unique specialty, here Lord Vinayaka swamy was a "self-manifested" (swayambhu) .
Temple is situated near to River called "Bahuda". There was a popular story on this temple and how Sri Vinayaka Swamy has "self-manifested" .
Story goes like this:
Long ago this place was called "Vihaarapuri". There lived three brothers (one was dumb,other one was deaf and another one was blind). They were former's and one day in-order to cultivate their form-land they were digging a well in their form, during that time instead of water , blood appeared. This blood got sprinkled on those brothers and they were cured from their physical challenges and became healthy men. They were surprised and shocked to see a "Statue of Swamy Vinayaka" in that well. All the villagers started doing pooja's from then after.
All these villagers worshiped the god and offered coconuts , these coconut's water covered whole form and it became wet (so, this land "Kanim" became wet "Pakam".. then after called "kanimpakam" .. and now it's became "Kanipakam"). That's how "Vihaarapuri" became famous as "kanipakam".

Devotees who worship "Vinayaka swamy" here all got their wishes ("varamulu") came true, so here Lord Ganesha called as "Shri Varasidhi Vinayaka Swamy". Earlier this temple was maintained by local "Devadaya Committee" and after became so popular it was undertaken by TTD (Tirumala Tirupathi Devastanam) and developed so beautifully. They started organizing all sort of seva poojas then after. And every year they were organizing "Brahmotsavas" as well. And they has "free cottages with Annadanam ("Free offering of food" ).
Kanipakam also has one of the oldest Shiva temple called "Shri Manikanteshwara Maha Deva". This temple was built by Telugu Emperor "Raja Raja Narendrudu".
How to Reach:
To reach kanipakam you can avail following ways.
By Road:
From Bangalore you can take NH4 (old Madras road) towards Kolar , Palamneru and reach Chittoor Town. From Chittoor there are two routes to reach kanipakam.
1. You may take Bangalore - Tirupathi bypass road to avoid entering into Chittoor town. You will find easy road side signs after crossing "Bangarupalayam".

2. Enter in Chittor town and take old Kanipakam road opposite to 'Chittoor District court" or First left after crossing "Chittoor Railway Station".

People coming from Tirupathi/hyderabad side can take "Right turn" after "Puthalapattu". Precisely opposite to "PuthalapattuPolice Station".
You will see a Big arch on right side immediately after crossing "Puthalapattu".
By Bus:
Reach Chittoor and take Kanipakam buses which will be available every half-an-hour once.
If you plan to come from Tirupathi then they have direct buses to Kanipakam.
By Train:
Either you can reach Tiruapthi or Chittoor Railway station and take bus/cab to reach Kanipakam. Chittoor will be shortest distance to Kanipakam.
Other ways: People coming from Tirupathi can avail cab packages.
